The City of Helotes doesn't charge for its holiday events. They are limited, though, and the limits kick in weeks before the first light goes up. Entry registration for the December 12 Hill Country Christmas Parade opens Monday, November 9, at 10 a.m. Registration for the First Responders Breakfast with Santa opens at 10 a.m. the next morning, and the breakfast has 200 seats.
Most of December in Helotes gets settled in those two mornings. The best spots go to residents who register early, and for the breakfast you also need to know whether your property counts as Helotes under the city's definition. A Helotes mailing address doesn't settle that question.
The two registrations open a day apart, but they work differently.

The parade calendar has moved. In 2024 the city opened entry registration on October 30. Entries were first-come and limited, and because of holiday office closures the deadline was moved up to November 26 at 4:30 p.m. The 2026 window opens ten days later in the year, which leaves groups planning a float about a month between registration and parade night. This year's theme is "The Music of Christmas." Entries can sign up on the city's parade registration page once it opens.
The breakfast has stricter rules. Each ticket covers a light breakfast, a treat bag for each child, and a visit with Santa and Helotes firefighters, police, dispatch, and public works staff. You need a residential address to register, and the city allows one registration per household address. If plans change after you register, the city asks you not to resell or trade the free tickets. Email [email protected] instead so the seats can go to another family. The city kept the same 200-seat cap in 2025, when registration opened on Wednesday, November 12. Tickets go through the 2026 First Responders Breakfast registration page, and the city has posted the full rules and regulations for the event.
The breakfast listing includes this note from the city: "A Helotes mailing address does not necessarily indicate that the property is within the City of Helotes' jurisdiction."
The city's address verification page explains that some properties with a Helotes postal address sit in unincorporated Bexar County or inside San Antonio city limits. It gives these steps for checking whether a property is inside Helotes city limits:
The BCAD check only covers city limits. The breakfast is also open to ETJ residents, and for that boundary the city's Development Services maps page links a City Limits and ETJ map revised in February 2026. Use that version. The city's older City Map page still links a 2020 map. If your property falls inside San Antonio's limits, the city refers you to the San Antonio Development Services Department. The check takes a few minutes, and it's easier to do now than at 10 a.m. on registration day.
The rest of the season fits around those two mornings. Most of it needs no registration at all.
Each date on that list ties back to the registrations in some way. The November 7 market and November 8 concert both fall before the parade and breakfast windows open. The December 4 and 5 weekend is the city's warm-up for December 12. The city's 2025 sponsorship packet describes the holiday series as drawing hundreds of residents and regional visitors. Every one of those visitors can enjoy the free events, but the parade entries and breakfast seats go to whoever registers in time.
The city's December 12 schedule starts at the fire department and ends in Old Town. The breakfast runs from 9 to 11 a.m. at 12951 Bandera Road. The parade steps off at 7 p.m. in Old Town Helotes, with the event address listed as 14391 Old Bandera Road.
The road closures start long before the parade does:
Riggs Road closes three hours before the parade starts and two hours before the other closures. That's the street where the MarketPlace sets up, so anyone running Saturday errands through Old Town that afternoon should finish before 4 p.m. or take another route. The city has posted a parade map with the event listing. For the 2025 parade, Texas Public Radio's community calendar suggested arriving early and bringing a lawn chair. That still makes sense when the route gets a one-hour parade and most of the surrounding streets close at 6.
Floore's sits right next to the closures. The Texas State Historical Association records its long run as a dance hall that hosted weekend dances. If you'd like Old Town without the holiday crowds, the Sunday lunch and family dance run every week through the end of the year. For more on how Old Town and the Bandera Road corridor are growing in different directions, see our earlier post, Bandera Road Is Getting Faster. Old Town Helotes Is Getting Louder.
If the BCAD lookup leaves you wondering about your property's jurisdiction, value, or where it sits in the Helotes market, The Lisa Guzman Group can walk you through what the records show and what that means for your home.
